Brief History
Brief History: Since 1987, the Ministry of Information provided a yearly budget for the promotion of the press and the media in Mauritius. In order to effectively manage this fund, the Media Trust was set up in 1994, after consultation with representatives of the local press.
Legislation
On the 26th of May 1994, the National Assembly approved the Media Trust Bill. The Media Trust Act was published in the Government Gazette No.59 of 4th June 1994. It came into force on the 1st of August 1994.
Media Trust Act
The first meeting of the Media Trust Board was held on 8th August 1994 at the Centre Social Marie Reine de la Paix under the Chairmanship of Mr. Gerard Cateaux.
